Ingredients:
4 cups | granny smith apples, peeled, cored and sliced |
4 cups | braeburn or pinova apples, peeled, cored and sliced |
3/4 cup | brown sugar |
1/3 cup | whole wheat pastry flour or all-purpose flour |
2 teaspoons | cinnamon, ground |
1/2 teaspoon | pure vanilla extract |
1 | whole lemon, juiced |
1 1/2 cup | whole wheat pastry flour or all-purpose flour |
1 cup | oatmeal |
1 cup | walnuts, chopped |
1 cup | brown sugar |
1/2 cup | granulated sugar |
1/2 teaspoon | sea salt |
14 tablespoons | butter, cold and sliced into 1 tablespoon pieces |
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In a large bowl combine both types of apples, 3/4 cup brown sugar, 1/3 cup flour, cinnamon, vanilla and lemon juice. Mix until well combined and apples are evenly coated.
Spread apples evenly into the bottom of a 9"x13" pan.
In a mixer fitted with a paddle attachment combine 1 1/2 cups flour, oatmeal, walnuts, brown sugar, granulated sugar and sea salt.
Add butter on low speed one tablespoon at a time until mixture becomes crumbly and butter is no longer visible.
Cover apples with crumb mixture and bake for 1 hour until lightly brown.
