Best Dang BBQ Baked Beans

These beans taste great even without the BBQ sauce. This recipe makes a lot - half the recipe, if you'd like. They also freeze well.
Dovetailing tip: Rinse the beans that soaked overnight and follow directions to cook.

Ingredients:
3 cups | dried great northern beans |
2 cups | bean liquid |
2 cups | vegetable broth, low sodium |
1 teaspoon | salt |
1 | onion, diced |
1 | green bell pepper, diced |
3 4 | 3-4 garlic cloves, minced |
1/4 to 1/2 | jalapeño pepper, minced |

1 (6-ounce) can | tomato paste |
1/4 cup | molasses |
1/4 cup | dark brown sugar |
1 tablespoon | yellow mustard |
1 teaspoon | apple cider vinegar |
1/4 teaspoon | ground pepper |
1/4 teaspoon | chipotle chili powder |
Directions:
Soak beans overnight in several inches water
Drain and rinse beans next morning
Add enough water to cover and bring to a boil
As soon as the beans begin to boil, remove from heat and cover
Let rest 30 minutes
Drain and rinse beans, reserving 2 cups bean juice
Add beans back into pot, with 2 cups bean juice
Add vegetable broth, onion, garlic, peppers, and salt
Bring to a boil again and simmer on low for 1 hr
Add mixture to crock pot
Add remaining ingredients and slow cook on low 4-6 hrs
