Ed Backus's recipe
Preheat oven to 375°

Ingredients:

11 cups flour
2 packages yeast
3 cups water
1 cup hot milk milk
1/2 cup sugar
5 tablespoons melted margarine
2 tablespoons salt
1/4 cup hot water

Directions:

Put yeast in 1/4 cup of very warm water (185°) and wait until it reaches the top of the cup. Put in a large bowl with the water, milk, sugar, margarine and salt and then stir well.
Add flour a few cups to a time and mix well. Place on a floured surface and knead until about 15 minutes until dough is like elastic.
Put into a very large buttered bowl upside down and then turn over and cover with a cloth.
I use a heating pad turned on 3 to raise the dough until it's double.
Lay dough out on a surface and cut into three equal parts. Put this dough into greased bread pans and bread top with butter and let raise until top of pans also on heating pad.
Bake at 375 degrees for 20 minutes - rearrange. Drop temperature to 325 degrees and bake for another 20 minutes.
Take out of pans and put on cooling racks and brush top with butter and let cool.
