From primitive cave dwellers to urbanites in glass high-rises, humans throughout the ages have shared my fascination with garlic. As an object of both love and disdain, garlic has had the power to attract, repulse, and serve humanity from time immemorial. The process of writing this book has allowed my love for garlic to flourish. As I became more familiar with garlic's history, mythology, cultivation, genealogy, and many, many uses, my love deepened into a profound respect. Garlic truly is worthy of being an object of affection.
There is an old blues song with a chorus that includes a line something like, "Don't advertise your love." Well, I may be foolish, but I am not a jealous sort of lover. It is my fondest desire to share with you the love and pleasure that I have experienced in my relationship with garlic.
