I use this Mortar and Pestle to bash peppercorns. The taste of freshly pounded pepper is stronger than that of milled, and they are nice on steak au poivre or chicken breast au poivre. It also works well for dried herbs if you want them powdered in dishes like hamburger or lamb patties, where the leaves can be a bit annoying. It looks nice on the counter.
