One way to add more nuts to your diet is to blend them into your smoothies — especially the king of nuts, almonds. We recommend the Vita Mix machine (we don’t work for the company and receive no monetary gains by recommending it).
This machine will grind a block of wood face-powder fine, so you can imagine what it can do to nuts, strawberry and raspberry seeds, etc.?
They show up used on ebay and Craig’s list all the time, and the Vita Mix company also sells used, refurbished machines. If you want to get into
juicing, look into this machine.
Here’s a wonderful
smoothie recipe that uses almonds and peaches (which are in season now—yippee!):
Almond-Peach Dream
10 – 12 raw almonds
2 C unflavored
yogurt
2-3 fresh peaches (skin left on)
1 C soy milk
Download this recipe.
And here’s another yummy and unique way to add more nuts to the menu: in a pie crust shell. This can be used in any recipe that doesn’t need baking: cream pies and cream cheese desserts—a great substitute for the traditional graham-cracker crust...
Nutty Crust
1/3 C cold pressed extra virgin olive oil, walnut oil, or almond oil
1 C finely chopped walnuts or pecans
½ C raw honey or maple syrup
1 ¾ C whole wheat flour (could substitute some oat flour for part of the whole wheat flour, also)
Mix all together, press into a pie pan. Flute edges and poke holes in bottom with fork to prevent bubbles. Bake for 15 min at 350º F. So good!
