Gourmet Chocolate Chippers

Makes: 7 Dozen

Avoid spending money on frozen cookie dough. Instead whip up this dough in less than 15 minutes, and then freeze for fresh baked cookies at your leisure.


2/3 cup shortening
2/3 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar, packed
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla
3 cups flour*
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 cups chocolate chips
1 cup chopped nuts, optional

Preheat oven to 375 F. Cream shortening, butter, and sugars until light and fluffy. Mix in eggs and vanilla. Stir in remaining ingredients. On ungreased cookie sheets, drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls about two inches apart. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until light brown. Cool slightly and then remove from cookie sheet. Store in an airtight container. Makes about 7 dozen cookies.

*Cook's Note: For a softer, rounder cookie, add up to 1/2 cup extra flour.
