1 cup butter
   1 cup sugar
   2 eggs
   1/2 teaspoon vanilla
   1/2 teaspoon salt
   3 cups flour
   1/2 teaspoon baking soda
   1/2 teaspoon baking powder
   
   Frosting:
   1/4 cup softened butter
   3 cups powdered sugar
   1/2 teaspoon vanilla
   Dash of salt
   Small amount of milk


Cream together the butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla. Then mix in the salt, flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Chill for 1 hour. Roll out thick on floured surface. Cut into stars, flags, or any other shape. Bake on ungreased baking sheet at 375° for 8-10 minutes. Don't let get brown.

Frosting:
Mix ingredients together with hand mixer. Beat in the milk to desired consistency. Will frost approximately 20-25 large cookies.

Divide the frosting into different bowls to create white, red, and blue frosting with food coloring then go to town decorating!
