A Month Of Food Holidays Worth Celebrating
I love finding out what random food holidays exist each month. I don’t always have time to celebrate each one, but I like knowing my options! Life is too short to not celebrate the little things, and food holidays can be a fun way to find a little extra joy.
And August is packed with some pretty awesome food holidays! Each month always has a couple great ones, but August really takes the cake in my opinion. Maybe someone figured with school starting so soon for kids that we need every reason to celebrate that we can get! Or maybe it’s because someone really wanted summer to go out with a bang. Whatever the reason, I am totally here for it!
Here’s some noteworthy days to put on your calendar for August-
August 2 is National Ice Cream Sandwich Day. I dedicated a whole article to this day last year- because why would you not want to celebrate a day of ice cream sandwiches!? It’s super easy to pick up a box at the store, but you could have so much fun being creative and coming up with your own! You could even host an ice cream sandwich bar with a variety of cookies and ice creams so your guests can create their own.
August 3 is National Watermelon Day. I love how refreshing watermelon is in the summertime. It’s the perfect summertime fruit! Grab some for this special day.
August 4 is National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day. As if we needed another excuse to eat chocolate chip cookies! You could have fun with a chocolate chip cookie taste testing party; have everyone bring their favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe and blind taste test them to see which one is the ultimate winner!
August 6 is National Root Beer Float Day. I haven’t had one of these for such a long time- but there really is something so refreshing about that combination of sweet vanilla ice cream and ice cold rootbeer!
August 10 is National S’mores Day. Another fun holiday that you could easily do a snack bar with. Set out a variety of cookies and crackers, marshmallows, chocolates, fruits, and do a s’mores bar- or even a s’mores charcuterie board!
August 10 is also National Banana Split Day. As if we needed another reason to love August 10! Banana splits are so basic- but they are so so good! And they are really fun to put together- kids would love celebrating this day for sure ;).
August 13 is National Filet Mignon Day. If you’re sugared out, here is a tasty treat for the adults! Go somewhere nice and enjoy a date with your spouse- I mean, it is a holiday after all ;).
August 20 is National Bacon Lover’s Day. Now this is a holiday I need to get behind. I don’t know how you can’t love bacon. BLT’s, hamburgers with bacon, scrambled eggs with bacon, fried rice with bacon, donuts with bacon- I mean, you can pretty much eat anything with bacon.
August 22 is National “Eat a Peach” Day. Peaches are definitely one of my favorite fruits. You don’t even have to do anything for this one- just buy a bunch of peaches and devour them by themselves! But of course, you can also get fancy and make a peach cobbler or peach pie as well- peaches are good in all their forms!
August 31 is National Trail Mix Day. This could be another fun “make your own” party. You could set out a variety of trail mix add-ins (peanuts, almonds, cashews, M&M’s, raisins, yogurt-covered raisins, pretzels, white chocolate chips, shredded coconut, dried apricots, etc) and let everyone have fun making their own unique mixture, totally catered to their tastes.
So many tasty holidays to think about, and this just scratches the surface! Which holiday do you think is most worth celebrating? Share with us in the comments below!
