Make This Mint Oreo Dessert for St. Patrick’s Day This Year

Oreo has come up with several amazing flavors over the years, even though I think that some of the flavors were a little too out there that were a little strange and tasted a little too fake--I think you know what I mean by that. One of their best flavors that has stuck around forever though has been the refreshing mint Oreos with the lovely mint green cream.

The original version of these are great, but I happen to be partial to the mint Oreo Thins, myself. For some reason, those thins are just amazing in the mint and lemon flavors, would you agree?

With St. Patrick’s Day coming up, as well as the equally important day to celebrate “National Oreo Day” on March 6, I thought I’d share one of our favorite family recipes, but with a minty green twist this time. I have talked plenty of times before about my family’s love for chocolate lasagna--a perfect heavenly treat for any occasion that disappears faster than how long it takes to make this super easy fast dessert! It is a layered dessert with a layer of crushed Oreos and melted butter on the bottom, followed by a lovely sweetened cream cheese layer, a pudding layer (the original recipe calls for chocolate pudding), followed by whipped topping and mini chocolate chips. It is such a hit at our house that three of the five of us have had this for our “birthday cake” the last three years in a row.

As you can see with an Oreo cookie base and so many pudding varieties out there, there are endless versions of this tried and true dessert recipe. You can do white chocolate raspberry, peanut butter and chocolate, lemon, pumpkin, just to name a few. The latest and greatest that you could make this month, which would be a fantastic idea to serve as dessert on St. Patrick’s Day this year would be a mint version of chocolate lasagna, which is also called “Heavenly Oreo Dessert” by many.

By using a package of Mint Oreos and coloring the cream cheese layer slightly green, you have a refreshing and festive dessert, perfect for this (or any other) time of the year. Mint chocolate desserts are truly great any time though and are so refreshing, particularly in the summertime.

Have you jumped on the “chocolate lasagna” or “Heavenly Oreo Dessert” bandwagon? Which varieties have you tried? Please share your thoughts in the comments below.

Calories per serving: 167

Ingredients:
1 package Oreo Mint Crème cookies, 15.25 oz
1/2 cup butter, melted
2 (27-ounce) packages (3.9 oz each) Chocolate Instant pudding
3 1/4 cups . cold milk
2 containers (8 oz. each) Cool Whip
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
1 cup powdered sugar

Directions:
Crush all Oreo cookies in a food processor until crushed. You could also put the cookies in a large resealable bag and crush using a rolling pin.

Save 1/2 cup of the crumbs for the topping.

Pour the remaining crumbs into a 9x13 dish and add the melted butter.

Stir and press into the bottom of the dish to make a crust.

In a bowl, whisk together the pudding mix and milk.

Set in the fridge for now.

Blend cream cheese until smooth.

Add powdered sugar.

Mix and fold in one container of Cool Whip.

Spread over the crust.

Add pudding and spread over the cream cheese mixture.

Top with the other Cool Whip.

Sprinkle the 1/2 c. Oreo crumbs over top.

Keep refrigerated until ready to serve. Refrigerate leftovers.

*Notes: All you need to get a light mint flavor is to use the mint Oreo cookies for the crust. If you’d like a stronger mint flavor, feel free to add a dash of mint extract to the cream cheese mixture or pudding.
