‘Tis the Cold and Flue Season!
by Patty Liston
With all of the coughing and sneezing going on, here are 12 “natural” ways to help keep you healthy.
- Wash your hands often: germs can live for weeks on door-knobs, telephones, and other surfaces we come in Contact with often.
- Don’t cough or sneeze on your hands. Use a tissue so you don’t pass your germs onto others, (or yourself), when you shake hands, or touch your face. (See #3)
- Don’t touch your face. Germs love to get into eyes, nose and mouth.
- Drink plenty of fluids. This helps flush out poisons in the body.
- Take a sauna 2x a week. You will get ˝ the colds due to the fact that you are breathing in air which is hotter than 80 degrees—too hot for virus’s to survive.
- Get plenty of fresh air. There aren’t as many germs circulating outside!
- Do aerobic exercise. You breathe faster and sweat when your body heats up. This helps increase the body’s natural virus killing cells.
- Eat dark green, red, and yellow vegetables and fruits. The natural chemicals in plants give vitamins in our foods a natural super charged boost.
- Don’t smoke.
- Cut alcohol consumption. Alcohol dehydrates the body of cleansing fluids and hurts the liver—-your body’s primary filtering system.
- Relax! Picture yourself somewhere peaceful. This helps activate the immune system. Try it for 30 minutes each day.
- Eat yogurt. Some studies show that eating 1 cup of yogurt per day can reduce our susceptibility to colds by 25%!
