Nutritious Candy?
Notes from Folks...
With the Spring holiday quickly approaching (Easter), what is the most nutritional candy I can put in the kids Easter baskets?
Is candy nutritious? As I tell my children, "it's just for fun." If you have an aversion to rotting your children's teeth out with the sugar overload found in Easter eggs, here are some alternatives, some edible, some not:
Sugar-free candy
Popcorn
Stickers, temporary tattoos
Boxes of raisins
Handfuls of nuts
Bouncy balls
Jacks
Mini-toys (slinkies, water guns, jewelry, yo-yos, etc.)
Collectibles (stamps, coins (personalized by their birth year)
Gift cards
Legos
Mini play-dough
Small crayons
Erasers
Foamies for art projects
Beads and string for making own jewelry
Batteries (for all their electronics)
Balloons
Chinese jumprope
Alternatively, you can "buy" the Easter candy from your children, after letting them select 10 favorites. This works especially well when other well-meaning relatives go overboard on the Easter hunts. The children can save or use the money to buy a toy, and you get to toss the candy (after tasting a few, of course). Just think, your few dollars investment may save you hundreds in dental bills.
Hope this helps,
