Too often we wish life away — “When it gets cooler, I’ll…” or “When it gets warmer, I’ll…” or “When the baby is potty-trained, I’ll…” or the biggie, “When I have more time, I’ll…”.
And the quotes could go on — you can add to it, and you know where we’re going with this:
NOW is the time to enjoy, there’s none better or none other available. Since we don’t know how much time we have, doesn’t it make good sense to relish the moment we’re in?
Gandhi said we should “
Live as though we were to die tomorrow and learn as though we were to live forever.” That said, we thought we’d share a few ideas for this season that might get you started on your own “Making the most of the season you’re in.”
Apple Orchard Adventure: Go apple-picking at a local orchard and take in the vibrant colors of fall. Apples make nutritious snacks and also work great for seasonal treats, such as fresh apple cider or homemade apple pie.
Napkin Notes: When packing your childrens’ lunch, write a special note on their napkins. This will be a nice surprise for them and act as a reminder that you’re thinking of them, even when you can’t be there in person.
Old & New Clothes: Donate old Halloween costumes to a day-care center, or family center. The kids will love playing dress-up with them. Additionally, assess your child’s overall clothing needs. This provides a good opportunity to donate any discards to local charity drives and teach the lesson of giving, while making room for new clothes.
Picture Perfect: For a crafty back to school project, keep the kids busy by making foam sheet picture frames. Foam sheets, glue, and felt come together to create colorful customized frames that are very inexpensive and perfect for housing a comforting family picture for them to take to school.
Never Fear 5pm Again: Sit down with your family to compromise on what everyone’s favorite meals are. Then, visit the Birds Eye website for recipe ideas to create a menu plan ahead of time and save that time you would have been wondering, "What's for dinner?"
Make it Last: When preparing dinner, make extras and freeze them to use throughout the week. This prevents you from having to start from scratch every night. Use simple, versatile ingredients, such as chicken and frozen vegetables, which can be added to rice or pasta in future meals.
Lunch Packing Time Saver: When buying snack items such as carrots, pretzels, and cookies, transfer the contents into individual resealable plastic baggies. Then, place the baggies back into the original package. This will save you time later, allowing you to simply grab the premade baggies when packing lunches.
Pumpkin Patch: Take the family out to pick pumpkins in a pumpkin patch. Many pumpkin patches offer hayrides fit for children, along with spiced cider to warm everyone up in the chilly weather.
