Want Lighter Crust?
Hi Dan,
I just love your DVO website. I just purchased your bread machine. I love it. Made a few loaves of bread. I find the crust is still a little dark. My husband and I love the crust soft. We set it to light. Should I be putting in less sugar? I haven't had any problems with other machines. If you could answer that I would be very thankful. My God Bless You and your family.

Hi Rose,
Try cutting the sugar in your recipe in half, or omitting it altogether. The sugar helps the crust brown faster. Another suggestion (not sure if it works) is to sprinkle flour atop the bread prior to baking. The theory is that the flour will brown (not the bread). Also, perhaps covering the loaf with aluminum foil (near the end of baking) will prevent some of the browning.
Good luck,
Desi
