Give-Aways

I have spent the last 2 hours reading your newsletter and wonderful recipes. I have already printed a whole bunch I want to try. I love them because they are using ingredients one has on hand. I love that and just wanted you to know how much we appreciate all your hard work in putting together this newsletter. Thank you very much.

Unsalted Butter in the Freezer?

What happens if you use unsalted butter that has been frozen for more than 12 months?

Thank you.

Alice Spicer

Hi Alice,

The recommended refrigerator time for unsalted butter is 3 months. The lack of salt also means lack of preserving powers. Freezing, however, lengthens the shelf life of any type of butter. You can store butter in the box inside ziplock bags for up to 1 year in a deep freeze and up to 4 months in a refrigerator/freezer unit. If you pull the butter out and it still smells/tastes good, you're okay to use it. You'll notice rancidity right away. You won't be even tempted to keep it if it has spoiled.

Hope this helps,

Desiri Wightman, R.D.
