Do-It-Yourself Microwave Popcorn

By Patty Liston

Did you know that you can microwave your own popcorn, in your own bag, at HOME? Neither did I.

I can't count the number of times that my sweetie and I have been home, watching a movie on TV and wishing we had some popcorn to munch. Thanks to this wonderful tip, our wishes from now on will become a reality! All we will need are the corn kernels, some school lunch bags and of course, butter. Imagine the money we will all save by doing this ourselves?

What you will need:
Microwave
A brown paper lunch sack
1/4 cup popcorn kernels
Some tape

Pour the popcorn kernels into the brown paper bag, fold over once and tape closed. Put into the microwave and microwave on high for 2 minutes and 30 seconds. Remember all microwaves are different, so this is just an approximate time. You don't want to burn your popcorn so watch it closely.

When the popcorn is through popping, your bag should be nice and full.

Add whatever you would like to your popcorn. Some suggestions are:

Butter
Parmesan cheese
Chili powder
Cinnamon & sugar
Garlic butters
Milk Duds (It's great to dig in and have an extra "treat" in the popcorn!)

Just add the toppings like you would to any popcorn. The butter can go into the bag once the popcorn is cooked, or pour the popcorn in a bowl and add the butter. Now, let's get the movie going!
