Oats in Bread?

Hi,

I have only been making bread about a year and love it so much, still loving each time I make it. Have seen recipes for these rolls but none included oats. Does the addition of add a different texture? Can you taste the oats? Thanks so much.

Hi,

If you soak the oats in the yeast water or other liquid for 5-20 minutes prior to putting them in your recipe, they will soak up the moisture and you'll never know they are in the bread. If you want more texture, then put them in dry. They will still absorb moisture, but also make the bread a bit more chewy with flakes.

You can also brush the bread with beaten egg whites prior to baking and then sprinkle oats on top for a lovely garnish. I've also saved leftover oatmeal or other hot cereal from breakfast and tossed it into the bread for a nutritious boost. You can't taste the oats.

Hope this helps,
