Cinnamon + Honey for Health
and Happy Taste Buds!

By Alice Osborne

Here's some cool news: Scientific research has found that a mixture of honey and cinnamon is curative for all sorts of things. In fact, these two foods have been used together in countries all over the world to address several health issues without any kind of side affects. And scientists say that even though honey is sweet, if taken in the right dosage as a medicine, it does not harm diabetic patients.

Honey is the only food on the planet that will not spoil or rot, and even if it crystallizes, honey is always honey. When this happens, just loosen the lid, boil some water, and sit the honey container in the hot water, turn off the heat and let it liquefy. It is then as good as it ever was. Caution: Never boil honey or put it in a microwave - this kills its enzymes.

The honey used needs to be true raw unpasteurized honey. If it says PURE honey it is most likely pasteurized. Be sure the label says RAW or UNPASTEURIZED. When pasteurizing, all enzymes are killed (and thus the medicinal attributes), leaving the honey nothing more than a nice tasting sweet spread. Here's a short list of some of the benefits of combining honey and cinnamon, as they relate to specific issues:

HEART DISEASE and HIGH CHOLESTEROL: Make a paste of honey and cinnamon powder and spread this on bread rather than jelly and jam; eat this regularly for breakfast. It reduces cholesterol and thus protects the heart. This breakfast habit also protects those that have had a heart attack from further danger.

Another cholesterol-lowering approach is to mix 2 tablespoons of honey and 3 teaspoons of cinnamon powder into 16 ounces of tea water (any herbal tea works fine). The bottom line: honey and cinnamon revitalize the arteries and veins.

ARTHRITIS: Arthritis benefits from drinking 1 cup of hot water with 2 spoons of honey and 1 small teaspoon of cinnamon powder. Do this morning and evening and chronic symptoms subside in most people.

BLADDER INFECTIONS: Studies show that taking 2 tablespoons of cinnamon powder and 1 teaspoon of honey in a cup of lukewarm water destroys the germs in the bladder.

COLDS: Common or severe colds benefit from drinking 1 tablespoon lukewarm honey with 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon powder daily for three days. This process will helps most chronic coughs, colds, and clears the sinuses.

UPSET STOMACH: Honey taken with cinnamon powder helps stomach ache and stomach ulcers.

GAS: Various studies have shown that stomach gas is relieved when honey and cinnamon powder are taken together.

IMMUNE SYSTEM: Daily use of honey and cinnamon powder strengthens the immune system and protects the body from bacteria and viral attacks. Honey contains many vitamins and iron in large amounts. Also, constant use of honey strengthens the white blood cells in their fight against bacterial and viral diseases.

INDIGESTION: Cinnamon powder sprinkled on 2 tablespoons of honey and taken before eating, relieves acidity and makes digestion of even the heaviest meals much easier.

INFLUENZA: Research in Spain shows that honey contains a natural ingredient which kills influenza germs, minimizing the likelihood of catching the flu.

LONGEVITY: More research suggests a daily drinking of a "tea" made with honey and cinnamon powder slows the aging process. Scientists studied a mixture of 4 teaspoons honey, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder, and 3 cups of water. When respondents drank 1/4 cup, three to four times a day, they reported softer skin and more sustained energy.

ACNE: Honey has long been used in facial masks. For acne, mix 3 tablespoons honey with 1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder to make a paste. Apply to face at bedtime; sleep on a clean towel or cloth, to protect bedding. Remove the next day with warm water. Doing this daily for two weeks usually shows results.

SKIN INFECTIONS: Applying honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts on eczema, ringworm, and other skin infections is a safe and natural way to heal these areas.

WEIGHT LOSS: Numerous studies show that drinking a "tea" made of honey and cinnamon powder each morning, 30 minutes before breakfast, aids weight loss.

CANCER: Recent research in Japan and Australia revealed that advanced cancer of the stomach and bones benefited from daily consumption of honey and cinnamon. Their patients took 1 tablespoon of honey with 1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder for one month 3 times a day.

FATIGUE: Research with the elderly shows that taking honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts every day are more alert and flexible. Doctors involved in the studies say that 1/2 tablespoon of honey and cinnamon powder in a glass of water taken daily after brushing the teeth, and in the afternoon (around 3:00 P.M., when the vitality of the body starts to decrease), increased the vitality of the body within a week.

BAD BREATH: In South America, people gargle first thing in the morning with 1 teaspoon of honey and cinnamon powder mixed in hot water, as a natural way to keep breath fresh and avoid sore throats.
