The Homemade Cake That Sold for $300
The area I live in has a tradition that I’m sure you guys would appreciate! Every year in February, we hold a cake auction to raise money for the teenage girls in our area to be able to attend a girl’s camp for a few days in the summer.
But these are not your ordinary cakes, no siree! People talk about this events for weeks leading up to the event. And people this year have already started talking about which cakes they’ll make next year. They plan and calculate and it’s our neighborhood’s biggest ordeal of the year. It’s highly competitive and it’s a blast!
This was my family’s first year attending, and I loved seeing how creative people were with their cakes! Some were simple, some were fancily decorated, and others auctioned off at a high price because they promised to be delicious ;). I have to show you some of these cakes, because I was seriously just tickled with how cute and creative they were!
That one covered in berries? A tres leches cake…..!!!! My mouth is drooling just looking at this picture again!
I cannot get over how cute this one is!! Such a simple idea, but absolutely adorable!
I would have totally gone for this cake….. If if wouldn’t have given me such bad heartburn! Let’s just say that my pregnancies and chocolate do not get along ;).
This one was actually made by a teenage boy!! All the little girls were totally lovin’ on this cake ;). Who wouldn’t with those fun lights??
What a creative idea! Just use bubble wrap to create that honeycomb effect ;). So darling!
I love how realistic this bait bucket looks! The only part that isn’t edible is the metal handle!
This particular cake had everyone’s eye on it ;). As the night went on, I could tell there were several dads holding out on bids because they wanted to save it for this glorious, beautiful, peanut butter chocolate ganache cake of goodness. I couldn’t help but laugh when this cake was being auctioned off. Men were literally jumping out of their seats to bid, and one man paced the floor in between each bid, pondering how much he was willing to give for this cake. In the end, it sold for a whopping $300!! Who says a cake has to be a fancy wedding cake to sell for a lot of moola? ;)
This was such a fun night- if you’re ever looking for fundraiser ideas, I highly recommend this one. What a fun way to let people get creative and show off their skills, all while raising money for a good cause! And if nothing else, hopefully you now have some cute cake ideas for your next birthday or special occasion that may require a cute and creative cake :).
