Undetectable Super Healthy Add-Ins for Your Morning Coffee or Smoothie
Something I have started seeing all over lately is something called bulletproof coffee. Have you heard of it? It is simply black coffee with grass fed butter and a splash of medium-chain triglycerides (MCT) oil mixed in. Coconut oil is an example of an MCT oil. Butter from grass-fed cows supplies a ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acids that's far healthier than what comes from conventionally raised livestock (it's actually similar to the healthy-fat breakdown of fatty fish).
Starting the day with healthy fats provides energy, is good for cognitive function, and supports your hormonal system. You’re supposed to blend it in the blender until it gets frothy and the oil no longer sits on the top.
Now, I am not a coffee drinker myself, but I thought I would address it because I love the idea of it. I do think it is such a great idea to add in healthy fats and other easy healthy ingredients to give your brain and body a good boost in the morning. These are a couple of my favorite ingredients to add into my smoothie or oatmeal in the morning for extra health benefits.
Coconut Oil
A really easy, practically tasteless thing I love to add to my breakfast is coconut oil. You could add this to your oatmeal, coffee, smoothie, or even spread on top of your toast. This is a great way to give you some really amazing healthy fats for your brain and body every day.
I’ve already touched on the health benefits of coconut oil before, but as a quick summary, coconut oil does the following things:
Boosts Immunity
Controls Blood Sugar
Lowers Cholesterol
Treats Candida
Nourishes Hair
Aids Digestion
Increases Bone Strength
Combats Alzheimer’s Disease
Promotes Weight Loss
Collagen
Collagen is an insoluble protein that accounts for 1/3 of the protein in our bodies and 70% of the protein in our skin. Many people are familiar with its role in the skin, which is why it is in many beauty products, but collagen is so much more!
It is a complex protein, made up of many different amino acids, but most commonly proline, glycine and hydroxyproline. The important thing to know is that these amino acids are not present in muscle meats and many of us do not get enough of these with our modern diets.
You can add this amazing protein to your diet by simply by adding 1 teaspoon collagen powder to your morning coffee or smoothie.
Here are some amazing health benefits to this easy add-in, powdered collagen:
Helps maintain skin elasticity and can help prevent skin aging and roughness.
Promotes bone health
Promotes joint health and mobility
Supports strong, healthy hair
Supports nail growth and strength
Better digestions and a healthier gut
May shorten exercise recovery
Aloe Vera
Alice has mentioned before to add aloe to your morning smoothie. It is something that is practically undetectable when added to a smoothie and the benefits are incredible!
Some of the wonderful health benefits of Aloe Vera include:
- High in Amino Acids and Fatty Acids. Aloe is said to have 18-20 of the 22 amino acids.
- High in vitamins and minerals including A, C, E, folic acid, choline, B1, B2, B3 (niacin), B6 and it is one of the few plants that contain vitamin B12.
- Aloe aids in digestion by soothing and cleaning the digestive tract.
- Because aloe is a gelatinous plant food, as those gels move through the intestinal tract, they absorb toxins along the way and get eliminated through the colon. This will help the proper elimination of waste from your body and help detoxify your body.
- Aloe vera is an alkaline forming food, which is important because disease cannot manifest in an alkaline environment so it will help to balance overly acidic dietary habits.
- And of course we know that aloe vera is amazing for the skin. It can help heal wounds, is great for applying topically to burns, abrasions, psoriasis and even bug bites. It acts as an analgesic, acting to help relieve pain of wounds.
Do you already use these three amazing superfoods in your diet? What is your favorite way to incorporate coconut oil, collagen, or aloe vera into your diet?
