Edible Lightsabers for May the 4th!
Where are our Star Wars fans? I’m not a diehard fan, but I do enjoy the movies on occasion ;). For those of you who may not be huge fans, May 4th has been officially dubbed “Star Wars” Day- because May the 4th is close to “‘May the force’ be with you”. Cheesy- but I like it ;). And it’s always fun to have reasons to celebrate!
While there are a billion ways you could celebrate this day, one of the easiest would be to make edible lightsabers! Lightsabers are an iconic part of the movie, and it’s easy to recreate them! Read on for some ideas!
*Pretzels. The ultimate “rod” food! You can dip them in colored candy melts to easily make your own mini lightsabers. You could have fun with the different colors- blue, green, and red. You could also use mini pretzels and cover them with coordinating colored sprinkles to give them an added sparkle.
*Corn Dogs. They may not be as skinny as a pretzel, but it’s still a “stick”, right? You can drizzle a tiny bit of colored sauce (ketchup or mustard with food dye) to make the different colored lightsabers.
*Pancake and Sausages on a Stick. If you’re not a fan of corn dogs, but you like the idea, Jimmy Dean has sausages on a stick, wrapped in pancakes- a sweeter breakfast version of a corn dog! You could drizzle these in strawberry jam to make red lightsabers.
*Fruit Kabobs. Another easy stick food! Green grapes, red grapes, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, strawberries- all would be great options for your fruit lightsabers. You could cover the bottoms of the sticks with foil to give them a more futuristic sword look, and you could even use silver cardstock and a black Sharpie to create more realistic looking lightsabers.
*Otter pops. These are basically frozen lightsabers, right? :) If you’re feeling crafty, you can cover the bottom third with grey felt decked with black stripes and colored dots to match those of a lightsaber. What kid wouldn’t have a blast “fighting” with these? (Until they melt, that is…).
*Cupcakes. You can make cupcakes into anything, and lightsabers are no exception! A row of red frosted cupcakes and a row of blue frosted cupcakes can be “criss-crossed” to look like two lightsabers in action! All you need is a few grey frosted cupcakes for the handles!
*Veggie sabers. You can create a healthy version of lightsabers by wrapping the ends of carrots and celery sticks in foil- easy and healthy!
Which lightsaber will you make this year?
