How To Magically Clean A Burnt Pan

Have you ever made a really silly mistake? One that makes you smack your forehead and say to yourself “Really??”

A couple weeks ago I was making muffins for my kids. I like to make big batches when I make them, because then I can freeze a bunch and have them on hand for breakfasts and snacks. Near the end of the batter, I greased an entire muffin pan, but ended up with only enough batter to bake 3 more muffins in my 12 cup muffin pan. I poured it in the tin, baked the muffins- and ended up with a huge mess on my hands! Call it a momentary brain lapse, mom brain, lack of sleep- but I ended up with some very burnt residue on the empty muffin cups. Leftover muffin residue and grease will definitely do that!

This silly pan sat on my counter for 2 weeks because I just couldn’t get this stuff off! I let it soak in hot water and tried scrubbing it and scrubbing it, but I knew I wasn’t going to get very far with that method. My fingers and clingy baby definitely wouldn’t allow it! I did some research to see if there was anything I could do, or if it was just a lost cause.

I’m happy to report that my muffin pan is beautiful and back to normal! And the trick? Baking soda, some heat, and a little bit of elbow grease!

If you find yourself in need of cleaning an extremely burnt pan, try this!

Create a solution of 2 tablespoons per quart of water and pour it into the pan. I baked my pan for 350 degrees for 20 minutes, and then let it cool completely. You could definitely tell the baking soda was reacting with something!

Once the pan was cool, I rinsed out the pan, and all the caked on muffin residue came right off! No scrubbing or digging, it just wiped right off! However, there was still some brown grease residue, so I let it soak in hot water with dish soap for about 5 minutes, and then lightly scrubbed at it with a dishcloth.

I think the final results speak for themselves:

I was SO excited to get this pan cleaned up and off my counter- and now I have this great little trick up my sleeve for the next time I burn something ;).

I hope this nifty solution can help you with your next burnt pan!
