Turn Your Food to Makeup! And/Or a Fun Girl's Night ;)
I know I’m not the only one who’s had to make a few adjustments during this quarantine! One thing I keep seeing is women joking about their bad hair and nails due to salons being closed. I’m a pretty low-maintenance girl myself, but I definitely understand wanting to look and feel my best! Did you know that you can actually achieve a beautiful makeup look using just food? I don’t know if I would necessarily use these all the time, but since we’re all stuck at home with not much better to do, these could definitely be a fun way to kill some time! Make it a girl’s night with your daughters, or get all your sisters/friends on Zoom or Google Hangouts and have fun experimenting!
Blackberries, blueberries, raspberries- This works best when frozen first; thaw the berries and dab them on your lips to give them a nice pink color- you could use just blackberries or just raspberries, or mix them all to get the shade you want. You could also mash them up, and add a smidgeon of coconut oil to give your lips some extra hydration.
Cherry juice- Take a frozen cherry and let it thaw. Dab your finger in the juice and gently rub it on your cheeks for a cheery, cherry colored blush! (You can also use it as a lip color or eye color!).
Beets- Another way to achieve a pretty pink look! They’d be perfect for blush or lip stain!
Cocoa powder- Dip a Q-tip in water and then cocoa powder, and apply to your eyelid for a natural brown eyeshadow. You can use it as an eyeliner as well, or even as a bronzer- though you’ll want to use a raw cacao powder instead of cocoa powder, as it's lighter in color. Put some in a small ramekin dish, and gently brush on using a bronzer or blush makeup brush. In addition to having a beautiful sun-kissed glow, you’ll smell especially sweet!
Cornstarch- Mix it with cocoa powder to lighten it to the perfect shade to match your skin color. Add coconut oil and you’ve got your own perfectly matched foundation. You can also use powdered sugar to achieve the same thing!
Flour- This can be used as a setting powder, and won’t give off any strong smells!
Coconut oil- This can be added to many foods to make them “wearable”, but all by itself it makes a great lip gloss or highlighter!
Matcha- If you’re looking to add more color to your face, matcha powder can be turned into a pretty green eyeshadow- just mix with coconut oil, or apply by itself!
Macaroni n’ Cheese- The powder is another great way to add a pop of color! Use as an eyeshadow- again, applying by itself or with a smidgeon of coconut oil.
Marshmallows- If you don’t want to use your actual make-up brushes, marshmallows make great make-up sponges! And you can eat it when you’re done- even better!
If you’re looking for more ideas, there are so many YouTube videos that are all about using different food items as makeup! You can also search the hashtag #facefulloffoodchallenge on Instagram for some ideas. While it may not be a permanent thing for you, this would definitely be a fun activity to try while you’re home! See how creative you can get! If any of you try this I’d love to hear about your experience.
