12 Ways to Make a Sandwich With Something Other Than Bread!
I love me some bread- but sometimes I want an option a little less carby! Whether you’re just bored of bread, trying to cut carbs, or want something lower carb so you can save room for other carbs (like fries!), these are are some great options for sandwiches that don’t use bread!
Cucumber. You can use cucumber slices to sandwich meat and cheese, or you can cut a whole cucumber in half lengthwise and make yourself a cucumber hoagie. This would be tasty with chicken or tuna salad as well!
Apple. Chicken salad on apple slices would be crunchy and delicious! They would also be tasty with peanut butter and a variety of “fillings” like crushed nuts, granola or chocolate chips!
Celery. Not necessarily a sandwich, but a carbless vehicle to get some deliciousness in you! Fill your celery with your favorite chicken salad recipe and top with craisins for a twist on “ants on a log”.
Pepper slices or halves. You can fill these with Sloppy Joe meat, taco meat or turkey and cheese!
Lettuce. A basic- but such a great substitute! Hamburgers, tacos, meat and cheese- you can use lettuce cups or wraps as a substitute for pretty much anything, and you’ll have an added delicious crunch!
Cheese. Instead of wrapping your meat and cheese in lettuce, try wrapping your meat and lettuce in a slice of cheese! Or wrap your cheese and lettuce in meat. I mean really, it’s all tasty!
Sweet Potatoes. A very thick slice of roasted sweet potato is a delicious and healthy substitute for a slider bun! Fried sweet potato is also really tasty for your breakfast sandwiches!
Mushrooms. Large, roasted portobello mushrooms are a great way to add flavor to your hamburger, and you can use it in place of a bun!
Fried Green Tomatoes. Maybe fried isn’t the healthiest way to go- but it certainly is tasty, and a fun way to change things up!
Mini omelettes. A great way to sandwich your breakfast meat is between two thick, cooked eggs or little mini omelettes!
Chicken breast. Slice a chicken breast in half and you can stuff it with all sorts of delicious, low-carb possibilities!
Sliced grilled eggplant. Another healthy and tasty alternative for your sandwich needs!
Which of these are you trying?
