The Two Restaurants You Have to Visit in Maui

You know your girl Mary over here is a foodie, so you have to know I couldn’t wait to find the best restaurants on our first trip to Maui and share our experiences with you guys! Besides hearing about all the beautiful scenery and places we needed to visit, my husband and I couldn't stop hearing about all the delicious (albeit pricey) food and ended up with quite a lengthy list of restaurant recommendations for our trip.

I have always heard how delicious Hawaiian food is and we get it quite often here in California. We love to get the katsu and teriyaki chicken with the classic macaroni side salad at our favorite local Hawaiian restaurant. I knew I would love the real food when we got there. We ate so many places and had so much good food--but there were two places specifically that I wanted to tell you about so that you make sure to try them if you get the chance to go. They are both extremely highly rated with tons of reviews so don’t just take my word for it ;)

Paia Fish Market

I am telling you--this place has the BEST fish tacos in the world! They are so fresh and could not be more delicious. This little restaurant is one of the best priced restaurants in Maui too, so you really cannot go wrong. It is on Main Street in Lahaina, which would likely be one of the cities you are sure to visit. The little restaurant was only 10 minutes from our hotel and we actually went there THREE times ha! That’s how much we loved it. We love going half-sies on our meals so each time we tried one new entree and the other one of us ordered the fish tacos. They are huge and delicious and they fry the outside of the soft corn taco shell so it is extra delicious. Apparently all their fish is fresh from the local fisherman each day so you can only imagine how great it is. We got a Mahi burger and the clam chowder and I highly recommend both of those dishes as well. Don’t miss out on going to this delicious spot--in fact, make sure to visit early in your trip because you are likely to want to visit again!

The Gazebo

This is a favorite local breakfast spot known for their macadamia nut pancakes and fried rice. It is right on the ocean and if you are there in the winter time, it is a great spot apparently to see plenty of whales! When we arrived we were greeted with swarms of umbrellas and wondered what the heck was going on. This shows you how good the food is because they have a huge barrel of umbrellas for people to use as they wait in the hot sun (well worth it!) to be seated for their delicious breakfast.

It might sound strange, but when you read on Yelp and even if you listen to the buzz of what’s good--people rave about their fried rice. Oddly enough, it is actually the perfect side dish to go with the sweet, tropical pancakes.

Speaking of pancakes--I ordered the banana macadamia nut pancakes with white chocolate chips and absolutely loved it! So much that once again we came back and waited in an hour-long line again to get the exact same meal :) I have never had better pancakes in my life! They also serve it with a light and delicious coconut syrup that really brings all the flavors together and makes them so unique. I have shared a recipe for the coconut syrup at the bottom for you to try and make your own Hawaiian-style pancakes.

Have you been to Maui before? If so, what restaurants would you recommend that people visit? Please share your thoughts in the comments below. After all this talk, I am off to make banana pancakes! :)

Coconut Pancake Syrup

I searched everywhere for a coconut syrup recipe like I enjoyed while I was in Hawaii. When every recipe I tried failed to satisfy me, I was compelled to create my own.

Serving size: 6
Calories per serving: 434

Ingredients:
1 (13.5 ounce) can coconut milk
2 tablespoons cornstarch
2 cups , light corn syrup
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup shredded sweetened coconut

Directions:
Step 1 Whisk together the coconut milk and cornstarch in a saucepan until the cornstarch is dissolved. Pour in the corn syrup, sugar, and coconut; bring to a boil, stirring continually. As soon as the mixture comes to a rolling boil, remove from heat. Allow to cool completely before serving.
