Do This and Your Body Will Thank You the Next Morning!

The next time you write up your shopping list, be sure to include a box or two of herbal teas and the ingredients to gussy them up (more on this in a minute).

WHY do you want herbal teas in your pantry? It’s all about sleep. According to the researchers at www.marthastewart.com, one of the most essential lifestyle factors that help us function efficiently is sleep.

When you give your mind and body an opportunity to recharge, you wake up feeling refreshed and alert, which sets you up for a more successful day. Adequate levels of sleep impact our overall health and wellness, our immune system, and our general mood and energy.

Thank goodness there are things you can do during the day to set yourself up for success when it comes to getting a good night's sleep. One simple way to help yourself sleep better is to create an evening routine, which would ideally include some down time and a cup of the above-mentioned warm herbal tea.

These teas have antioxidant ingredients that help ward off free radicals which damage our cells. While we are resting at night, our bodies go into repair mode, so adding a delicious, restorative tea to your nighttime routine can give your body that antioxidant boost it needs while calming your body in a natural way.

Food scientists have researched the very best teas to drink before bed to get a better night's rest. Here are their findings:

POMEGRANATE TEA. If you are looking for the polyphenols and ruby red antioxidants, this tea fits the bill. An in-vitro study conducted by UCLA concluded that pomegranate juice has, on average, more antioxidant capacity than red wine, grape juice, or green tea.

MINT TEA. A superior soother. And when you combine that with CITRUS tea, you have a calming herb drink that people have used for thousands of years. It soothes an upset stomach, helps with digestion, and just calms the entire body down, helping you sleep more soundly.

Lastly, GOLDEN LATTE. Don't confuse this warming drink with your morning java. This Latte is the farthest thing from coffee, and it's the perfect drink to enjoy at night. It incorporates turmeric, which is another aid to digestion and also has superb calming properties which leads to sounder sleep. It's easy to prepare and totally delicious. I’ll close with Martha’s recipe for this very good tea.

So back to that shopping list: Don’t forget some herbal mint, herbal orange, and pomegranate teas. Your body will thank you the next morning!
