Death Valley Nut and Candy Company

One of the things I love about traveling full time is having the opportunity to see so many unique little towns. We stayed in Beatty, Nevada and it is actually a very pleasant little town! The library is adorable, wild burros roam the streets freely, and the closest place to get fresh produce is an hour away. But they do have a nicely stocked Family Dollar if you want canned goods or frozen pizza ;).

In our exploration of this little town, we came across the Death Valley Nut and Candy Company, located in a convenience store at the edge of town. This little store is reason enough for me to want to come back to Death Valley! (Not that I need another reason- Death Valley is incredible on its own and I am anxiously awaiting the day we get to go back!).

As soon as I walked into the store, the little girl inside of me just squealed with delight. I wish I had though to take pictures and video- but I was also trying to wrangle six kids by myself in this delightful store that is every kid’s dream…..

Rows and bags and bags of candy. And more variety of stuffed animals than I have ever seen in my life. I’ve been to plenty of toy stores, and none of them have had the variety of stuffed animals that this little store has- lions, tigers, pandas, lemurs, sloths, elephants, giraffes, hedgehogs, squirrels, chipmunks, raccoons, puppies, kitties, unicorns, dragons, sharks, whales, octopuses, snakes, lizards, pigs, goats, cows, fish- I mean seriously, if you can think of an animal they probably have it. My kids were dying.

I don’t know who handed it to her, but somehow my 18 month old girl got hold of a little stuffed puppy and she kept nuzzling it and kissing it and wouldn’t let go of it… and, well, I wasn’t planning on buying any stuffed animals, but how could I not with that kind of cuteness going on?? And she has cuddled it ever since, so I don’t regret my impulse decision ;).

Aside from all the stuffed animals, the candy and nuts are SO fun. They have some of the typical varieties of candies you might see- Hi-Chews, candy necklaces, Tootsie Pops, etc. But then they have so many cool varieties of chewy gummies and hard colorful candies! Ice cream cone gummies, hearts, unicorns, pacifiers, hamburgers and French fries, fruit shapes, alligators- this would be such a fun little store to go to for a themed party! With the variety of shapes and colors, you could easily find candy to fit whatever color scheme you’re shooting for.

They also had a huge variety of nuts and chocolate candies that were so unique! Garlic pistachios, fiesta nuts, chocolate covered angel food cake, caramels, etc. It was so hard to narrow it down to just a few options! I could easily have spent $500 in the store, but I limited myself ;). I let each child choose a bag of candy, and then I grabbed a couple bags of nuts so we could try some fun variations!

This was our final stash:

This was the white chocolate honeycomb I chose and OH MY GOODNESS. I wish I had grabbed more. The honeycomb is the perfect texture, the chocolate is divine- it makes me want to go back and try everything!

In addition to all the bags of candy, I also grabbed these hilariously huge gummy candies for a gift exchange game my family plays twice a year. These are sure to be a hit with my brothers!

I mean, look at the detail and size of these!

This was such a fun place to stop. I’m excited to find more hidden treasures such as this on our travels- and I’ll be sure to share them with you when I do!
