Why when I import a backup file does it disconnect me from the cloud?
QUESTION:
"Why when I import a backup file does it disconnect me from the cloud?"
ANSWER:
Let’s say that you buy an Amazon Kindle device, log in to your Amazon account, and download your 5 Kindle books. Now, let’s say that you log in to a different Amazon account that has 10 Kindle books. As soon as you log in to the second account, the first 5 Kindle books on your device are going to be erased before the other 10 are downloaded.
Cook’n behaves the same way. If you are logged in to one account that has 5 cookbooks in it and then you log in to another account that has 10 cookbooks in it, the first 5 cookbooks are going to be erased before the 10 are downloaded.
Just like the Amazon Kindle device (and your iPhone and almost all other apps and devices like this), the data in the cloud is NOT merged with the data on your device when you log in.
When you restore a backup file, you are disconnected from any Cloud account. The reason is because it is impossible for us to keep your cloud account synced with a backup file that may have been made a month ago, a year ago, or two years ago. Like I said, by design, we do not have a feature that will merge the data from your Cloud account with the data on your local device.
To merge your data, we recommend that you take the following steps:
- Launch Cook’n and restore your backup file
- Export the cookbooks you want to add to your cloud account by right-clicking the cookbook and choosing Export->Export to Cook’n File
- Log in to your Cloud account
- Click File->Import and choose the .dvo files that were created in step #2
I hope this helps!
