Fried Bread

Ingredients

1 cup warm water
package active dry yeast
2 tablespoons sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
2 tablespoons shortening
2 1/2-3 cups sifted all purpose flour
oil for deep frying
CINNAMON SUGAR
4 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon

Directions:

Sprinkle yeast over warm water in a large mixer bowl. Add sugar, salt, 2 tablespoons Crisco, and 1-1/2 cups flour. Blend at low speed until moistened, then beat for 3 minutes at medium speed. Using a spoon, stir in enough remaining flour to make a soft dough.

Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic. Place dough in a greased deep bowl and turn to grease top. Cover let rise in a warm place until doubled (about 1 hour).

Heat Crisco to 365°F in deep fryer.

Cut yeast dough into 1-inch pieces stretch pieces slightly and fry in hot Crisco for 1-1/2 minutes or until golden brown turn over once. Drain on paper towels. Shake in a bag with cinnamon sugar. Serve warm.
