In a large heavy saucepan, cook apples and apple juice, covered, 30 minutes or until apples are tender. Mash or sieve apples. Stir in sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and cloves. Cook, uncovered, over low heat, stirring frequently, about 1 hour or until thick.*
Spoon into sterilized 1/2 -pint jars, leaving 1/2 -inch headspace adjust lids and process in a boiling water bath 10 minutes after water comes to a boil. Or freeze in containers or freezer bags.
*For a finer texture, cool and process in a food processor.
