In a small glass bowl, place butter or margarine. Microwave at 100% power (700 watts) for 30 to 45 seconds or until melted. Add syrup set aside.
In a small bowl, mix dates, walnuts, brown sugar and cinnamon set aside.
Core apples without going all the way through the blossom end. Peel skin one-third of the way down around apples. Fill center of each apple with one-fourth of the date-nut mixture. Spoon about 1/2 tablespoon of the syrup mixture into center of each apple. In a 9-inch round glass baking dish, arrange apples in a circle. Spoon remaining syrup over and around apples. Cover with waxed paper. Microwave at 100% power for 6 to 7 minutes or until apples are almost tender, rotating dish after 3 minutes.
Remove from oven. Cover with foil and let stand for 5 minutes uncover.
Baste and serve warm in individual dishes. If desired, top with whipped cream.
