In a medium microwavable bowl, stir soy sauce, sugar, vinegar, oil, red pepper flakes, ginger, garlic powder, and salt. Microwave at 100% power (700 watts) 30 seconds remove and stir until sugar is dissolved. Stir in mushrooms and green onions. Let stand at room temperature 1 to 2 hours, stirring several times.
To serve, transfer to a decorative Oriental lotus bowl and serve with wooden or plastic picks. Recipe is easily doubled. Best served the same day.
*If button mushrooms are not available, purchase 12 medium mushrooms and cut in half.
NOTE: Use any leftovers in a vegetable or chicken stir-fry.
