My Crepe Experience in Russia
My husband Andy and I had the opportunity to live in Moscow Russia for 5 months. One of my very favorite memories of our trip was the celebration of Maslynitsa. This is a week long celebration that takes place at the end of February.
A part of the celebration is the eating of blini (like crepes or pancakes). The blini honor the coming of the sun ---round and golden. The more delicious fillings that are put on the blini, the hotter the sun is expected to be in the coming summer. I was able to try blini with smoked salmon and caviar, however my favorite were the many preserve filled ones.
Traveling through Latvia and Estonia we visited a few crêperies. My continuing thought was, “Why aren’t these all over America?” I will admit that my favorite crepe was a bit sinful. It was filled with bananas then deep fried and covered in a chocolate cream sauce – a little taste of sweet joy. Crepes are served around the world, and endless are their possibilities.
