Favorite Foods and Restaurants That Have Disappeared
One of the worst things that happens to all of us- you find a new favorite restaurant in town, or a favorite new treat at the store. It becomes your new obsession, your new go-to on date night, your absolute favorite- and then it’s ripped away! One of the risks of falling in love with food- you’re sure to have your heart broken at one point or another!
I was walking through Costco the other day when I saw Chocolate Coconut Cashews- something that I absolutely LOVED when they had them in 2017 (I was pregnant, which is why I remember the year ;) ), and then they disappeared and I was SO SAD. So imagine my glee when I saw that they’ve finally brought them back! They’re not at my local Costco, so I have to drive to the farther Costco to get them- but you can bet I’m going to create a little stockpile in case they take them away from me again! They’re crunchy and sweet and just absolute perfection!
Sadly, we don’t always have the chance to re-taste our favorite things. Sometimes, they’re just gone for good.
My mom has talked for years about lime Starbursts. I don’t know if these were ever around when I was alive, but I certainly don’t remember them. But my mom talks about how these were hands-down her favorite- and they’ve been gone for years!
Another favorite of my parents- a restaurant called Training Table. They had a dipping sauce that I remember really liking, but my parents absolutely craved it! They’ve since decided that JCW’s Ultimate Dipping Sauce is pretty close, but just not the same as their original beloved Training Table sauce.
My father-in-law loved a restaurant called Wild Mustang. It had a variety of great pies, as well as some delicious entrees. That was the go-to for birthdays and Father’s Day- and then that too disappeared.
Do you remember Creme Savers? I LOVED those! Strawberries n’ Cream, Oranges n’ Cream, Chocolate n’ Caramel- they were all delicious! But those are all but gone now. I think there are similar candies out there, but they’re just not the same!
Taco Bell is the absolute worst at this. My husband and brother-in-law joke that Taco Bell is like a bad boyfriend. They rip your heart out and then have you coming back. They are so great at bringing something new and delicious- and then taking it away! Like their Grilled Cheese Burrito, or their Beefy Frito Burrito! Sigh.
Station 22 used to be a favorite restaurant of my husband’s and mine. He loved the Honest Abe hamburger, and while I’ve tried and liked several things, I absolutely LOVED their Philly Cheesesteak and Golden Gate Burger. Their menu has changed a little through the years, but recently they did a complete overhaul and it’s like a completely different restaurant! No more delicious hamburgers or Philly Cheesesteaks. The sadness is real!
When I asked my sister about some of her long-lost favorites, she mentioned Cherry Bagels (which are super good!) and all the old flavors in the blue tropical Skittles bag. I don’t even remember the flavors, but I remember this being one of her favorite treats! She also mentioned Trader Joe’s chocolate covered mixed fruit and Hostess Honey Bun Cereal. She still even has one box left in her pantry that she’s holding onto!
