SMART Ideas!
by Alice Osborne
Save Your Knife Edge!
This idea comes from an executive chef at a 4-Star restaurant: After dicing or chopping something, it's common to scrape the food across the cutting board into a bowl, using the cutting edge of the blade. NOT a smart idea. Unfortunately, this is an easy way to dull your knife. To preserve the sharp edge of your knife, flip the knife upside down and use the spine to scrape food off the board. Smart, huh?
Dishwashing Gloves to the Rescue
Instead of purchasing one of those round rubber jar openers, simply put on a rubber dishwashing glove to get a good grip on the lid of a hard-to-open jar. Smart, huh?
