Aaargh me mateys! You've got to see these!
By Sydney Hill
Aargh me mateys! I'm in charge of helping with a pirate-themed cubscout party, so I decided to go looking for some creative ideas. Our world has turned into such a multimedia one. We see it everywhere, with phones, tablets, itunes, and even Cook'n?! It's a thrill that people are willing to share what they've done so that we can get help where we may be lacking. Supporting each other, it's fabulous.
The results were far from disappointing. As this is DVO, I decided to stick with the food side of things. SO FUN! The greatest thing is that a lot of these are extremely easy, it's the name you give it that matters.
Why am I sharing this? It's fun to see what people come up with. And hey, maybe some of you are aspiring to be pirates (I thought I was turning into one when I was talking to someone the other day and accidentally said "That's me plan." Don't worry, though. I'm not growing facial hair yet and my hand hasn't turned into a hook, so I think we're good). Back to the subject, maybe you want to host a party for your little pirates. Maybe you want to have a fun, themed dinner for your family or friends. Any of those things would be a blast!...except for growing a beard...
Pirate Plethora:
Wow, you've got everything in here! Gold (chicken) nuggets, hot dog squid, fish n' chips, scurvy sandwiches, seaweed salad (rotini pasta), octopus (orange pepper) dip, and cannon balls.
Vegetable tray:
I love the carrot palm tree!
Orange Boats on the High Seas:
Some Blue Jell-o and pirate flags complete these orange boats.
Treasure Map pizza:
Using some green peppers, olives, and red peppers, or whatever else. Make a pizza that leads to an "x" marking the spot! Or do it easier with a quesadilla!
Pirate boats:
Another boat idea, I like the healthiness involved.
Here's some additional ideas:
- Pirate GOLD: really just cheese cubes with a toothpick flag. Add some easy protein into the pirates' diets.
- Cannon Balls: Black Olives. What kid doesn't like an olive? What adult doesn't like an olive? There's probably a few but they are generally well-liked. Put 'em in a bowl with a cannon ball label and it completes the atmospheric table array. If you want to stick with candy, I saw some that used gumballs instead.
- Fish bait: Place some gummy worms in a jar. People will be thrilled.
- Pirate Punch: The name has a ring to it. The great thing about this one is it can be any fruit flavored beverage. Give it an alliterative name like Pirate Punch and it becomes a fun twist.
- Sword Kabobs: Simply skewer some fruit, or some meat and cheese, and call it a sword kabob. Don't start fighting with them though. It can only end in tears.
- Pirate's Booty: Pirates seem to plunder and pillage anything in sight. So, just get a bowl full of anything: Muddy buddies, chips, trail mix, cantaloupe and watermelon, etc, and you can call it pirate's booty.
- Fish n' Chips: Goldfish and plain potato chips mixed together. Or if you wanted, you could do fish sticks and chips as more of a main course.
- Pirate Boats: Deviled eggs with a pirate flag. I love deviled eggs!
- Gold Coins: Sprinkle Chocolate coins over the table for d?cor?and for eating
- Polly's Crackers: A dish with crackers in it. How easy!
- Ring Pop party favors: Pirates love jewels! And we love ring pops! It works great.
