Healthy and Festive Valentine’s Food!

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner! I love all the cute pink/red treats you can make, and usually I try to make a few, but this year is a little different. My husband and son are on a no-sugar phase right now, which is causing me to try something a little different this year. Just because we won’t be eating candy doesn’t mean we can’t have some adorable (and tasty!) Valentine’s food!

I can’t help but think berries right off the bat! There’s something about berries that just shouts Valentine’s Day, am I right? You can make ice cubes with berries in them, make a delicious berry salad, berry kabobs, or simply decorate with berries! They are beautiful, and tasty, after all ;). And while granted, the picture shows pomegranate seeds, not berries- I think they are a beautiful exception, don’t you?

Or you can always go with heart-shaped cutters. These are a game changer. Depending on what size cutter you have, there are so many options! If you have a mini sized cutter, you can cut meat and cheese into little hearts and serve them with crackers. You could cut watermelon or even strawberries into adorable heart shapes and serve them in a salad or just by themselves! (Or stick them on lollipop sticks to create a healthy and fun “treat” for you kids!). You could also do a more savory salad and cut out heart shaped cucumbers, peppers, mozzarella slices, etc. You could even do little roasted potato hearts! With a larger heart-shaped cookie cutter, you could make an array of heart sandwiches! Or for breakfast, try heart shaped whole wheat pancakes or frying an egg inside a piece of toast in which you’ve already cut out the heart shape ;). The sky’s the limit!

If you’re really looking to impress your valentine, try making these unique heart-shaped boiled eggs!

You’ll need rubber bands, a chopstick, and a cut-up milk/juice carton. Simply boil the eggs as you would normally- once they are done, peel them, and while they are still warm, place the egg in the milk/juice carton, push the chopstick down on the egg so it’s laying across and pushing an indent, and keep the whole thing together using rubber bands. After about 10 minutes, you’ll have some adorable eggs that you can slice for a very unique salad topping! Or serve it for breakfast with these adorable yogurt parfaits :). Because who doesn’t love yogurt parfaits??

You could even just keep it super simple and not cut/make anything- just use regular ol’ fruit and some creativity ;). “You are ‘plum’ perfect, I am ‘bananas’ for you”, etc.

And then of course, we can’t omit the true way to most people’s hearts- pizza ;). Whether you make a homemade heart-shaped pizza, or simply arrange your toppings into a heart, pizza is an easy and safe bet for almost anyone ;).

And if all else fails, just think red, pink and white :). Marinara sauce, strawberry sauce, apples, berries, grapes, cheese, etc. Work with what you have! Do you have anything you’d add to this list? Share below!
