Year of Disney- Bambi and the Cutest Owl Cheeseball You’ve Ever Seen
It’s blowing me away how fast this year is already going! I feel like we just rang in the New Year, and we’re already mid-March!
I also feel like these Disney meals are helping with that- Monday has become a very anticipated day in our house. My husband comments all the time that he has been loving these Disney nights because it gives him something to look forward to at the end of the weekend. My 3 year-old asks me EVERY DAY when our next Disney meal is. I think it safe to say, this has definitely been a big hit at my house, and as I get more and more pregnant, I just hope I have the energy to keep up!
This week is Bambi! This meal was probably the least exciting for my husband and father-in-law haha. But for me and my mother-in-law, it hit the spot! My father-in-law kiddingly (kind of) suggested we serve venison for dinner- but knowing we see Bambi’s mom die, I just thought that might be a little too morbid for our kids- and for me!
This meal was a bit more snack-y than our other ones; but definitely healthier! We served a big green salad, since Bambi is a deer- and pretty much eats big green salads for dinner! We also made a big beautiful fruit salad, since we see little birds munching on berries in the movie. I didn’t get a picture of either of these dishes, but they were wonderful and totally hit the spot for this pregnant mama!
I made a cheeseball in the shape of an owl and I’m just so tickled with how it turned out. I’ve seen several different versions on Pinterest, so I combined my favorite features to make my own- and I just love it. He was almost too cute to eat!
But then again, he was made of cheese ball, and you just can’t let something that delicious go to waste! I did say he was almost too cute to eat ;).
To top off our meal, I made little deer cupcakes. I figured this was a little less macabre than eating straight-up venison, and my kids certainly didn’t seem to care! Just your basic chocolate cupcake and frosting- with pretzels, Nilla Wafers and M&M’s to finish the look! You could use candy eyes as well, but I liked the less silly and softer look of the M&M’s to go with Bambi.
I always try to include a recipe for you in my Disney articles, but we really didn’t use a lot of recipes for this particular meal! I even cheated and used a boxed cake mix for my cupcakes because I was feeling way too tired to make something from scratch (don’t stone me!) But I do like my family’s version of a cheeseball. There are so many cheeseball recipes out there, and I kind of just eyeballed mine (based off what my mom taught me ;) ), but I put an approximation of what I think I used. Cooking isn’t always an exact science, am I right??

2 1/2 (8-ounce) packages cream cheese softened
1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
1 teaspoon celery salt
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 green onions, chopped

Mix all ingredients together. Add more or less salt, shredded cheese, and green onions to taste. Let it get firm in the fridge. Tastes even better the next day!
For the owl, I used chopped pecans, sliced almonds, sliced olives, provolone cheese slices cut in circles, celery leaves, and bits of carrot.
