ANSWER:

This is a feature in Cook'n called "Smart Directions" (click here to see this feature in action). To turn this off, simply tap the "Sync" button on the bottom navigation bar. Then, tap toggle "Smart Directions" to the off position. Turning this feature on/off will apply to every recipe you have in Cook'n.
