It’s a Holiday Candy Face-Off!
As I dropped yet another 50 bucks on more pastel-colored, peanut butter-filled Easter candy today I realized I’ve really got a problem here. I didn’t realize how much I love Easter candy until I realized how many times I have gone to the store to drop some cash on some of these limited time only candies and it got me thinking about holiday candies and which holidays I think have the best candies.
I’m ranking the 4 major holiday candies from worst to best and my reasons why. I’d love for you to share with me your rankings and any thoughts you have on the matter. By the sheer amount of money I’ve spent on Easter candy this year, it seems it could definitely be the winner, but you’ll have to keep reading to find out.
4. Halloween
Halloween is lowest on my list because there isn’t a ton that is truly original or different for this holiday--it’s basically just big bags of variations of the same old candy you can buy any time of year. If you are big into King size candy bars or just candy bars in general, this holiday is totally your jam. You better do some research or ask around to find out which flashy neighborhood is the one giving out the good stuff! It takes hard work and dedication to achieve your dreams! ;)
Favorite Halloween candy: I can’t think of too many specific Halloween candies besides candy corns, so I’m going to go with fun-size Butterfingers. Honestly, let’s go with all the fun-size bars! Never can you have so little self-awareness of how many calories you are eating when you pop those tiny candy bars in like Tic Tacs by the dozens. It’s pretty great!
3. Valentine’s Day
I mean, you can sum up Valentine’s Day with one word, that specifically us females tend to adore: chocolate. If you are a chocolate lover, this holiday is your jam!
Favorite Valentine’s Day candy: Lindor chocolate truffles. I love all kinds of chocolates, but we might as well go for the good stuff, right? Nothing beats that amazing, impossibly smooth chocolate filling. It's brilliant--dare I say, inspired!
2. Christmas
Christmas is another holiday that I would say doesn’t have a whole lot of real “candies” besides peppermint candy canes and some red and green spice drops, which I think most of us would agree are pretty much at the bottom of the rung of ranked candies. However…..if we are considering all the delicious baked goods and cookies to be “candies”, it could very well take first place, in my opinion. You bring baked goods into the mix and it’s a whole new ball game to me :) You’ve got fudge, peanut butter brittle, divinity fudge, chocolate covered-pretzels, peppermint bark, just to name a few.
Favorite Christmas candy: I’m going to go with a classic chocolate orange for this one. These are so unique and my husband especially adores them. I usually buy a dozen for him that we share throughout the next several months. This is the best chocolate treat to let melt in your mouth as you enjoy perfect milk chocolate with lovely orange flavor. Not to mention they are so fun to let out your aggression and bang open!
1. Easter
Well, we saved the best for last! With half an aisle of the grocery store devoted to all sorts of peanut-butter filled, egg-shaped delights, Easter rounds out my list and takes the coveted #1 spot for me. I mean seriously, though. Just when you think Reese’s couldn’t possibly think of any other treats to make, Easter hits and you see about 20 new varieties of chocolate and PB and your mind is blown. Just take all my money, Reese’s--just do it. Let’s get this over with.
Not only does Easter have PB treats for days, they have Peeps and jelly beans! If we were talking NBA teams here, this holiday would have Lebron James, Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Karl Malone and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on it. This holiday is stacked with the best of the best candy and I don’t think any other holiday can try to compete. Not to mention it has the most adorable color palette with all those pastel shades everywhere. Sadly, I don’t think those other holiday candies even stand a chance!
Favorite Easter candy: This is so tough because there are so many good ones! Growing up it was always the classic cream-filled Cadbury egg, then the Cadbury mini eggs had a good solid run for a decade. In the last couple years I have fallen in love all over again with the Reese’s egg. There is just so much peanut butter in that egg--how do they fit that much PB in there? it’s astounding! However……taking the number one spot of not only the Easter list, but the WHOLE list entirely of favorite candies is….drum roll, please…..Reese’s Pieces Eggs! You take Reese’s Pieces, which are awesome, and you make them five times bigger and cover them in a nice lavender, soft pink, spring green or butter yellow shade?? What’s not to love?!
What are your favorite candies from these four major holidays? And which holiday do you think has the best candy? I’m curious if any of you agree with me on this Easter thing here. Please share your thoughts in the comments below!
