Kid-Friendly Fish Recipes For Your Fishing This Summer!
One of the things we want to do more often in our travels is fish. My husband grew up fishing and absolutely loves it. He introduced me to it when we were dating and it’s actually something we did quite a bit in the early years of our marriage. I’ve come to really enjoy it. We’ve been taking our kids out and most of them have really fallen in love with fishing as well!
My favorite is when my 4 year old fishes. He ALWAYS catches something and is so delighted each time. I’m actually surprised with how patient he is! While waiting, he usually breaks into song, singing a favorite song or making one up on the spot “I’m waiting for a ‘bishy’”. It’s just so cute and my favorite thing! I’ve included a little video if you want to hear his magic song ;).
Now the one part of fishing we still need to figure out is how to get my kids excited to eat it after the fact ;). My husband insists the best way to prepare trout is to load it with butter and lemon pepper seasoning. That’s definitely pretty tasty. The last time I cooked trout we did fish tacos, and by the time I was done with the seasonings (cumin, chilil powder, paprika, onion powder, a sprinkle of garlic salt), you couldn’t even taste the fish- just all the flavoring! I thought it was pretty well done. Top it with fresh pico de gallo and it’s perfect.
We just went fishing last night and we caught a total of 11 trout-not a bad haul! We actually have a pretty decent amount of meat to cook through, so I thought I’d look at some other kid-friendly recipes and share them with you!
While not necessarily a recipe, one simple thing to do is to coat the fish in your kids’ favorite sauce. If they love barbecue sauce, make a BBQ glaze. Marinate it in teriyaki sauce. Fry it up and serve with ketchup! Sometimes a little sauce makes all the difference.
If you want some specific recipes, here are a few to try!
This one definitely looks like a winner to me. So simple to prepare, and parmesan is such a great, kid-friendly flavor!

This one could be dairy-free if you substituted the butter, and the seasonings seem flavorful enough to me to help hide any fishy taste from the kids!

Most of my kids love pesto sauce, so I’m sure they would gobble this one up! True, it calls for tilapia, but I could easily substitute with the trout we catch.
