What is the advantage of capturing to the cloud versus the desktop?
QUESTION:
"I installed Cook'n on my laptop in the spring and have been busy capturing recipes. I typically use the desktop capture option rather than the cloud. My computer hard drive now seems to be filling up and I am wondering if that's related to all the recipes I've captured. Where are they stored on my desktop? What is the advantage of capturing to the cloud versus the desktop? I'm typically a reluctant cloud user.
Thanks so much for your help!
Kathy
ANSWER:
We provide the "Capture to Cloud" option in case the Cook'n Desktop app is not running at the moment OR if the Desktop app is not installed on that computer OR if the Cook'n Desktop app will not launch (for one reason or another). Otherwise, there is no advantage.
FYI...the recipes stored in Cook'n take up a very small amount of hard disk space on a person's computer. If you think about it, a recipe entity consists of a few bytes of text characters and that's about it. So, you're not going to run out of hard disk space by storing recipes.
The food photos take up more space than the recipes themselves but, relatively speaking, a .jpg photo takes up very little space as well.
To see the impact in terms of hard disk usage (and since you asked the following question: "Where are they stored on my desktop?"), right-click on the Documents\Cook'n12\workspace\data folder and notice the value in the Size field. Then, Capture a new recipe and repeat this process and you will see that the size increase is minimal.
