Why does my databse become corrupt every now and then? So annoying!!
QUESTION:
"Why does my databse become corrupt every now and then? So annoying!!"
ANSWER:
Database corruptions can occur for a number of reasons. For example, databases can become corrupt if there is a virus on your computer or in the event of a power outage, etc. There are dozens of things that could cause something like this.
However, this is a very rare event that may happen to one out of every 500 people. And, if it happens to you more than once, most likely, there is a problem with your computer.
For example, some users have real-time backup software on their computer that will cause the Cook'n database to become corrupt. The reason this causes a problem is because, as soon as you exit the Cook'n app, your backup software will detect that your recipe database files have changed and it will lock the files as it backs them up. If you launch Cook'n again (for example, when Cook'n auto-updates), Cook'n will not be able to open the database files because your backup software has locked them. This will cause a database corruption.
If you have real-time backup software running on your computer, not only will it cause problems with Cook'n but it will also cause your computer to run incredibly slow. Do yourself a favor and change this so your software makes a backup at 2:00 am. One backup per day is plenty.
If your database becomes corrupt for one reason or another, the easiest way to fix this is to simply click File->Restore->From Cloud Account to restore your data from your Cook'n Cloud account.
