In a large frying pan over medium-high heat, cook the beef until it is no longer pink, breaking it up with a wooden spoon. Spoon off the melted fat with a metal spoon.
Add the onion cook and stir for 2 to 3 minutes or until onion starts to soften.
Turn oven on to 350°.
Add hot dogs, tomato sauce and catsup or chili sauce to the frying pan. Cook over low heat for 15 minutes or until thick, stirring with a wooden spoon every few minutes.
Place buns with the cut-sides up on a cookie sheet. Toast in oven for 3 to 4 minutes to brown lightly.
Place two bun halves on each serving plate and spoon on 1/4 of the meat mixture. Serve hot.
