Grandma's Bread Pudding

Ingredients

4 cups French bread lightly packed cubed day-old
2/3 cup brown sugar packed
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon ground
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg ground
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup raisins
2 cups milk
3 tablespoons butter or margarine
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
powdered sugar
half and half

Directions:

* Cooking Time: 13 to 15 minutes Power: 100% (700 watts) 70% (490 watts) Standing Time: 15 minutes Coat a 9 x 2-inch round microwavable dish with non-stick spray. Place bread in dish set aside.

In a small bowl, mix brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt until blended. Sprinkle mixture over bread. Sprinkle with raisins set aside.

In a 4-cup microwavable measuring cup or bowl, place milk and butter. Microwave, uncovered, at 100% power (700 watts) for 4 minutes or just until milk is hot and butter melts.

Meanwhile, in a medium bowl, beat eggs and vanilla until well blended. Stir in hot milk until blended. Pour over bread, moistening every cube.

Reduce power and microwave, uncovered, at 70% power (490 watts) for 9 to 11 minutes or until center is almost set and edges are set, stirring gently after 5 minutes.

Cool on a heatproof surface for 15 minutes. Serve or cool to room temperature before serving. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve with half-and-half.

* Do not use sourdough French bread.
