In saucepan, melt butter or margarine with the clove of garlic. Add thyme and salt and pepper to taste. Let simmer for 2 or 3 minutes, then set aside to cool. Remove garlic. Cut loaf of bread into 3/4 -inch slices and dip slices into butter.
Spread sesame seeds on a sheet of wax paper. Roll bread crusts in the seeds, then sprinkle 1 side of each with seeds. Put slices, seeded side up, on a baking sheet. Bake in middle of a preheated 400° oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until they are lightly toasted and crisp. Arrange toast on a breadboard for serving.
