Celery grows on the cool coasts of California and belongs to the same family as carrots and parsley. When shopping for celery, choose green, crisp stalks with fresh looking leaves. The stalks should be smooth inside with a glossy surface. Store the celery , unwashed, in a plastic bag for up to 2 weeks in the refrigerator. If your celery starts to whither, dunk it in cold water until it crisps back to its normal, crunchy self. Celery contains both vitamins C and K.
