1. Bring a 4-quart pot of water to a rolling boil. Add the pasta, and cook according to package directions. Drain, rinse under cold water, and transfer to a bowl.
2. In the same pot, heat the oil over medium-low heat. Add the garlic, and sauté 1 to 2 minutes or until fragrant. Add the basil and salt, and sauté 2 minutes. Transfer the pasta to the pot and toss with the oil. Adjust the seasonings, if desired.
3. Serve hot. If using calendula flowers, break them up before adding to individual servings.
