Ideas for topping your loaves with added flavor:
Streusel Topping:
Mix 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup broken nuts, and 1/4 tsp. cinnamon over loaves before baking.
Cinnamon and/or Sugar Topping:
Sprinkle loaf with a cinnamon-sugar combination or plain sugar before baking.
Powdered Sugar Glaze:
While still warm, drizzle the loaf with a mixture of 3/4 cup powdered sugar, 1 tablespoon softened margarine, 1-2 tablespoons milk or juice, and 1/4 teaspoon vanilla or other flavoring (almond, orange peel).
Cream Cheese Icing (great for carrot, pumpkin, or applesauce loaves):
Beat 4 ounces softened cream cheese, 1/4 cup softened butter and 2 cups powdered sugar until smooth. Spread over cooled loaf.
Cinnamon Whipped Topping:
Whip 1 cup whipping cream until soft peaks form. Stir in 1-teaspoon cinnamon and 3 tablespoons powdered sugar. Chill until ready to serve.
Citrus Glaze:
Mix 1 cup powdered sugar with 1-tablespoon lemon, orange, or pineapple juice. Sprinkle in lemon or orange zest as desired.
