I've found that eating the recommended daily servings of fruits and vegetables is a challenge for my family and me. I've come up with three reasons why.
First, We're so busy that we often end up eating the foods that are most convenient rather than the foods that are best for us.
Second, I didn't really realize the importance of getting all of my fruits and vegetables in every day. It was a matter of awareness for me and this issue of the HomeCook'n Newsletter has really helped me.
Third, many of the fruits and vegetables are picked before they're ripe so they can be shipped to the grocer without bruising. Some of the farmers even paint them so they look ripe. As a result, they just don't taste that good. There's a big difference between the tomatoes we get from our garden and the "plastic-like" tomatoes that we get in the store. I think that if we ate farm fresh produce all the time, it would be easier to eat it a lot more often.
What I'm wondering is whether I'm alone or not. Do you struggle as we do or is your family in the 22% that eats at least 5 servings of produce per day? Cast your vote and let your voice be heard!
Have a super day!
Dan
